Canada’s crop input market faces multiple challenges and growers will look to get the most bang for their buck when purchasing fertilizer, seed and pesticides for 2024.

Grainews aims to make that process a little easier with its annual rebate roundup feature that examines some of the cash-back rebates and other reward programs available to growers (in alphabetical order).

BASF

BASF’s rebate program for western Canadian farmers is called BASF Ag Rewards.

It includes the InVigor Reward, in which anyone who buys InVigor hybrid canola can receive up to 15 per cent off BASF crop establishment solutions including qualifying cereal seed treatments and inoculants.

Growers can also receive eight per cent back on BASF broadleaf and cereal fungicides and five per cent on eligible herbicides. To qualify, growers must purchase a minimum of 300 acres of InVigor hybrid canola and 300 acres of Liberty 150 SN herbicide.

Growers can earn additional rebates through BASF’s Baseline Reward with the purchase of two or more segments of products with a minimum of 300 acres per segment and a total of $20,000 of products.

That includes rebates of two or four per cent for crop establishment products, five or nine per cent for herbicides and four or eight per cent for fungicides. In addition, the Elite Reward provides an additional one per cent rebate to those who qualify for the Baseline Reward and purchase at least $250,000 of BASF products.

BASF’s Dan Packer says there have been only minor changes to the company’s Ag Rewards program.

“There’s been some changes, but overall the look and feel is very similar to previous years,” BASF commercial operations manager Dan Packer says of this year’s Ag Rewards program.

“We wanted to keep it relatively consistent, with just a few tweaks, so people don’t have to learn a brand-new program every year.”

One change is the addition of a Liberty 150 herbicide reward. Growers can earn $1 per acre with the purchase of 300 acres of InVigor hybrid canola along with 300 acres of Liberty 150. They can earn an additional $1 per acre if they qualify for a Baseline Reward.

“We added a rebate on Liberty this year because we believe the best herbicide system for InVigor canola is our Liberty herbicide and we really wanted our InVigor customers to be rewarded for purchasing Liberty from BASF,” Packer says.

The eligibility period ends Sept. 30, 2024. For more information about the program visit the company’s website. An Ag Rewards calculator is available on the website.

Bayer CropScience

Bayer CropScience’s BayerValue West Program is back for another year and offers savings of up to 25 per cent on eligible purchases from among more than two dozen eligible brands or products.

Growers who purchase a minimum of 500 acres of Bayer brand seed or qualifying traits will be able to access a Trait Rewards savings of five per cent. They can earn an additional Seed Treatment Reward of five per cent with a minimum purchase of 500 acres of seed treatments.

Growers can also qualify for an additional five or 10 per cent segment savings when they purchase a minimum of 300 acres from two or three different crop protection segments.

The Incredible Bayer Offer remains unchanged and provides an additional five per cent off qualifying herbicides when growers book a minimum of 1,000 acres by March 8, 2024.

Laudis and Pardner herbicides can earn buyers rebates of as much as 25 per cent.

Programs and incentives manager Tiffany Gogowich says simplicity is a big part of the BayerValue program’s appeal. There is no requirement for growers to match seed acres and there is virtually no paperwork to fill out.

“(Growers) don’t need to submit any kind of invoicing to us,” she says. “The retailers take care of all of that directly. As long as they’re signed up, it’s pretty easy for their purchase data to be calculated and then we send them a rebate cheque based on what their purchases were for the previous year.”

One change for 2024 involves the discount the program provides to growers who purchase a subscription to the company’s FieldView digital platform. Growers who purchase a minimum of 300 acres in two crop protection segments or 500 acres of a Bayer brand seed or seed trait along with a paid FieldView subscription will now receive a 50 per cent rebate on their subscription. The platform was previously free for qualifying customers.

“It’s still a really low barrier to entry because we didn’t want to add a whole bunch of hoops for people to jump through who were looking to get into a digital platform,” Gogowich says.

In addition, two recently launched products have been added to the program. They include Varro FX cereal herbicide and Delaro Complete pulse fungicide.

The eligibility period for the 2024 BayerValue West Program ends Sept. 30. More information about the program is available online.

Corteva Agriscience

The farmer rebate program offered by Corteva Agriscience is called Flex+ Rewards. If a farmer maxes it out, Corteva will rebate up to 18 per cent on their eligible crop protection products.

The first step is for growers to find their program tier based on the manufacturer’s suggested retail price:

Core – $25,000-$49,999 or 320 acres of seed

Core Plus – $50,000-$119,999 or 640 acres of seed

Core Max – $120,000 or more or 1,500 acres of seed

Then, choose the needed products from several categories, which include:

Pre-seed herbicides

Grass herbicides

Broadleaf herbicides

Fungicides

Biologicals

Seed and seed treatments

Cross-spectrum herbicides

For the Core tier, choosing products from three categories will net buyers a five per cent rebate, while purchases from four or more categories will earn them an eight per cent rebate.

For the Core Plus tier, there are rebates of six and 10 per cent respectively and in the Core Max tier, it’s seven and 12 per cent, respectively.

Growers can receive an additional three per cent rebate through Corteva’s early book bonus. They must inform their retailer of the eligible products they’re planning to purchase by March 15, 2024, to qualify.

One change to the Flex+ Rewards program for 2024 is introduction of an innovation bonus category. Growers who purchase a combined 300 acres or more of any of five new eligible products (OnDeck herbicide, Straxan fungicide seed treatment, Utrisha N nitrogen efficiency biostimulant, Viatude fungicide, Zetigo PRM fungicide) will save an additional three per cent on all products purchased. The innovation bonus replaces a seed and seed treatment bonus available last year.

Corteva’s program aims to treat farmers as partners, Josh Fraser says.

“The main intention behind the innovation program is to make sure that we’re treating farmers as partners more than just year-over-year customers and try to cater to their requests,” says Canada programs leader Josh Fraser.

“One of their main requests has been that we bring new, innovative products to the market and increase our focus on those products. This will help answer that request.”

The eligibility period for the Flex+ Rewards program runs until Aug. 31, 2024. Details of the program and a full list of eligible products are available online.

FMC Canada

FMC Canada’s CashBack program returns for 2024. Product manager Jordan Brisebois says the program isn’t tied to seed purchases and doesn’t require any matching acres for products, as some similar programs do.

“We like to say it’s an agronomic-focused program,” he says. “You pick the products that fit your farm agronomically and then we reward you on the back end with the economics. We don’t tie it into anything else or make it difficult for you to get rewarded. It’s very simple.”

As part of the CashBack, farmers in Western Canada who purchase at least $5,000 worth of eligible FMC pre-seed and in-crop herbicide between Nov. 1, 2023 and Oct. 31, 2024 will receive a rebate cheque at the end of the growing season. That includes pre-product brands such as Authority, Command and Focus as well as in-crop options such as Barricade and Travallas.

FMC’s program isn’t tied to seed purchases, Jordan Brisebois says.

Rebates for qualifying products are based on four spending levels based on MSRP:

$5,000 to $29,999 – two per cent rebate on pre-seed herbicides, six per cent rebate on in-crop herbicides

$30,000 to $49,999 – four per cent rebate on pre-seed herbicides, nine per cent rebate on in-crop herbicides

$50,000 to $74,999 – six per cent rebate on pre-seed herbicides, 12 per cent rebate on in-crop herbicides

$75,000 or more – eight per cent rebate on pre-seed herbicides, 15 per cent rebate on in-crop herbicides

While the FMC CashBack program hasn’t changed much in the past five years, one notable difference in 2024 is an additional $1 an acre ProActive rebate to buyers who purchase matching acres of eligible pre-herbicides and in-crop herbicides.

“It’s a nice resistance management story where we’re really encouraging growers to layer on different actives and we want to reward them for doing that,” Brisebois says.

For more information about the FMC CashBack program or its calculator, visit the company’s website.

Nufarm

Nufarm’s grower rewards program is known as Nufarmer Nation. This year marks the third year of the program, which Zach Rogers, Nufarm’s marketing and communications manager for Canada, says is all about developing strong relationships with farmers.

“We really want it to be easy to do business with us,” Rogers says.

“Our program is really easy to qualify for and it’s very easy to understand, which is in keeping with our customer focus. We want farmers to have a good experience. We always want to make sure that we keep it a priority that we keep our rebates accurate and paid on time, are easy to quality for and easy to understand.”

The first step in the program is to purchase a minimum 160 acres of Conquer II, a pre-seed burndown product for canola, or Valtera EZ or Fierce soil active herbicides.

Next, growers can choose eligible products from four categories (seed treatments, pre-seed burndown herbicides, in-crop herbicides and fungicides) to qualify for rebates of between four and 12 per cent, depending on how much they spend on builder products from Nufarm during the growing season.

The purchase levels (based on suggested retail price) and corresponding rebates are as follows:

$5,000 to $39,999 – four per cent rebate on all qualifying products

$40,000 to $89,999 – eight per cent rebate on seed treatments and pre-seed burndown herbicides, six per cent rebate on in-crop herbicides and fungicides

$90,000 or more – 12 per cent rebate on seed treatments and pre-seed burndown herbicides, eight per cent rebate on in-crop herbicides and fungicides

One “tweak” to Nufarmer Nation for 2024, according to Rogers, is the addition of two new products powered by the company’s Duplosan technology. Those products include Oxbow, a cereal broadleaf herbicide that manages resistant kochia and other challenging weeds, and Blackhawk EVO, a pre-seed burndown herbicide that controls broadleaf weeds.

The eligibility period for Nufarmer Nation is Aug. 31, 2024. An online calculator and additional program details including how to register are available online.

Syngenta

Syngenta’s Partner Program for Western Canada remains largely unchanged from a year ago. It retains its three core components for 2024: the Portfolio Reward, the Crop Bonus and the NK Soybean Seed Bonus.

Matthieu Vuignier, programs commercial lead for Syngenta Canada, said through an email exchange that the primary focus of the Partner Program is helping farmers make sound agronomic decisions by offering choice and flexibility.

“We feel the Syngenta Partner Program offers a wide array of agronomic solutions, making it accessible to almost all farms in Western Canada,” he wrote.

The Portfolio Reward includes three product categories for seed treatments, herbicides and fungicides. Growers who purchase 320 acres of qualifying products from two categories can save seven per cent. Purchases from three categories can net a savings of 10 per cent.

Growers can earn additional rebates by participating in the Crop Bonus. By purchasing 320 acres worth of product within different product categories for an individual crop (canola, cereals, soybeans and pulses) farmers save between two and 5.5 per cent on the suggested retail price for those products.

The product segments include seed treatments, herbicides, fungicides and biologicals, and plant growth regulators. For farmers buying products that can be used across multiple crops, such as Envita, Miravis Neo, Reglone Ion and others, a five per cent savings is available through a multi-crop product enabler.

The third component of the Partner Program is the NK Soybean Seed Bonus. It offers a $2 per acre rebate to farmers growing a Syngenta NK Soybean variety who buy 80 or more acres of a second NK variety.

Syngenta has maintained the list of Partner Program qualifying products from 2023 including the Envita nitrogen-fixing biological and the Miravis family of fungicides. Several new products have been added to that list for 2024 including Talinor post-emergent cereals herbicide, Miravis Starfor fungicide for sclerotinia control in canola and Vibrance Total seed treatment for pulse crops.

The eligibility period for Syngenta’s 2024 Partner Program for Western Canada ends Oct. 31. More details and an online calculator for the program can be found online.

UPL Canada

UPL Canada’s rebate program is known as UPL Grower Rewards and remains largely unchanged for 2024.

The foundation is its Smart Buy Rewards. It provides farmers with pre-season savings of 10 to 15 per cent with a minimum 300-acre purchase of eligible products from UPL Canada’s portfolio of seed treatments, herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, biostimulants and plant growth regulators. The deadline for Smart Buy Rewards for 2024 is Feb. 15.

The savings don’t end there, according to Tony Dalgleish, marketing manager for UPL Canada. Growers who miss that Feb. 14 deadline can still save between five and 7.5 per cent by earning Base Rewards.

To qualify, they must buy 160 acres of eligible products from UPL Canada by Aug. 1. Additionally, growers who buy Interline and Select herbicides together (minimum 300 acres) receive five per cent back on their purchases.

There is also the Rancona Trio Bonus, which helps farmers save two or five per cent if they buy at least 300 acres of Rancona Trio fungicide seed treatment plus another one or more eligible products.

As well, customers who buy 300 or more acres of Rancona Trio and a minimum of 160 acres of either Evito, Roxar or Zolera FX fungicides or Ohm or Wave biostimulants can double their Base Rewards rebate up to 15 per cent.

One new product added to the UPL Growers Reward lineup for 2024 is Select Plus herbicide for canola, pulses and soybeans. It features a new all-in-one formulation that includes quizalofop-p-ethyl for improved tank mixing capability.

More information on UPL’s rebate program and a Grower Rewards calculator is available online.

With the high price of fertilizer and other crop inputs these days, it’s more important than ever to be mindful of cash-back rebates and other grower reward programs as you prepare for the 2023 growing season. With this in mind, here’s our annual roundup (in alphabetical order) of rebates available to farmers in Western Canada this year.

BASF

BASF’s rebate program for western Canadian farmers is called BASF Ag Rewards. It includes the InVigor Reward — those who buy InVigor hybrid canola can earn up to 15 per cent off of BASF canola herbicides and up to 17 per cent off of BASF canola fungicides. As well, you can save up to 15 per cent off of BASF pulse crop establishment products, up to 17 per cent off of BASF cereal fungicides and up to 25 per cent off of BASF cereal seed treatments. An Ag Rewards calculator is available online at the BASF website.

“We have made some small changes, but for the most part it’s consistent. This was important to us coming into this year so that growers could expect the same level of rewards from BASF,” says Tim Bodvarson, commercial operations manager at BASF.

To qualify for BASF Ag Rewards, farmers must buy at least $20,000 worth of BASF products including seed and crop protection offerings and purchase 300 acres or more of eligible BASF products from different crop solution segments. Bodvarson notes there is one new herbicide on offer — Voraxor Complete, a pre-seed herbicide for pulses.

BASF also has the Pulse Pack Offer, which provides pulse growers with a $2 per matching acre rebate if they buy a minimum of 120 acres of Dyax fungicide as well as at least 120 acres of qualifying BASF imidazoline (IMI) herbicides and/or pre-seed herbicides.

The eligibility period for BASF Ag Rewards and the Pulse Pack Offer ends October 1, 2023. For more program details visit agriculture.basf.ca/west/programs/ag-rewards.

Bayer CropScience

This year, Bayer CropScience has included close to 30 brands in its BayerValue West Program that offers up to 25 per cent in savings on eligible purchases.

With a minimum 500-acre purchase of seed treatments, you can access five per cent savings on qualifying products across three segments (seed treatments, herbicides and fungicides).

If you buy qualifying products from more than one segment (minimum 300 acres per segment), you can save an additional five per cent (for two segments) or 10 per cent (for three segments).

There’s also the new BayerValue West Trait Bonus, which offers another five per cent rebate on eligible crop protection purchases when using any combination of Bayer traits for canola, soybean and corn (minimum 500 acres).

The Incredible Bayer Offer is back again this year. By booking 1,000 qualifying acres of cereal herbicides by March 10, you can save an additional five per cent on your eligible herbicide purchases.

Signing up for BayerValue West Rewards also gives you a complimentary one-year subscription to Bayer’s Climate FieldView digital platform and up to 50 per cent off of the cost of FieldView hardware purchased on the FieldView order portal (maximum $1,000 discount). More details on the Climate FieldView offer are available at climatefieldview.ca/bayervalue.

John Hanson, programming and pricing incentive manager for Bayer CropScience, says BayerValue West has increased savings for farmers who take advantage of both the seed treatment rewards (five per cent rebate) and seed traits rewards (five per cent rebate) for 2023. Those choosing not to buy traits can still save up to 15 per cent on qualifying seed treatment, herbicide and fungicide purchases.

Hanson notes whether farmers are looking at the brochure, checking out the online rewards calculator, or discussing options with their retail reps, the depth and breadth of the BayerValue West portfolio should enable them to find solutions to their agronomic needs. “That’s one thing we’re very proud of,” he says.

BayerValue West includes several new products in 2023, including cereal seed treatment Raxil Pro Shield (all-in-one formulation), XtendiMax 2 and Roundup Xtend 2 soybean herbicides and Minuet biological fungicide for potatoes (see BayerValue Hot Potatoes Prairies Reward Program).

The eligibility period for 2023 BayerValue West Rewards ends September 30, and you must register by July 31 to be eligible for program benefits. For more program information visit cropscience.bayer.ca/Grower-Programs/BayerValue-West.

Corteva Agriscience

Corteva Agriscience calls its farmer rebate program Flex+ Rewards. If you max it out, Corteva will rebate up to 18 per cent on your eligible crop protection products.

Lorne Thoen, customer experience and marketing communications manager for Corteva, says the Flex+ Rewards program is intended to provide lots of flexibility for farmers.

“We try to make sure we can access as many growers as possible with our rebates without hindering their ability to access the agronomic products they need,” says Thoen. “We want to try to get folks who have chosen one of our brands and had a great experience to be open to choosing us again for other needs on their farm, and for us to be able to earn that right to get a shot at that business.”

The first step is to find your program tier (spend tiers based on MSRP):

Core – $15,000 to $24,999

Core Plus – $25,000 to $99,000, or 300 acres of Corteva seed

Core Max – $100,000 or more, or 800 acres of Corteva seed

Then, choose the products you need from several different categories, which include:

Pre-seed herbicides

Grass herbicides

Broadleaf herbicides

Fungicides

Canola and corn herbicides and biologicals

Cross-spectrum herbicides

At the Core tier, choosing products from three categories earns you a six per cent rebate, while purchases from four or more categories gets you a 10 per cent rebate. For the Core Plus tier, it is seven and 11 per cent respectively, and then in the Core Max tier it’s eight and 12 per cent, respectively.

There’s another three per cent rebate available through the Seed and Seed Treatment Booster Bonus by buying at least 300 acres of Pioneer seed or Brevant seed products and/or Lumivia CPL, Lumisena and Lumiderm soybean insecticide seed treatments. You can also save 28 per cent on Lumivia CPL by matching acres with pre-seed, grass, broadleaf or cross-spectrum herbicide purchases (300-acre minimum).

Lastly, you can earn an additional three per cent rebate if you book your products by March 15, 2023.

The eligibility period for the Flex+ Rewards program runs until August 31, 2023. You can find the details and full product lists at corteva.ca/en/offers/flex-rewards.

With the 2023 FMC CashBack program, there are no ties to seed purchases and/or matching acres with products. Jordan Brisebois, product manager for FMC Canada, says that’s because the idea behind the program is to keep things simple and reward growers for making agronomic decisions for their farm.

“When we designed this program three seasons ago, we thought, ‘we’ve got some great solutions for growers. Let them go to the solution first, find out what works for their farm, and then let’s reward them for that purchase afterwards. Make it simple,’” says Brisebois.

“For example, if you like Authority 480 as a product that helps solve a kochia problem on your farm, you start with the agronomic problem and then fit the solution into the programming piece after that.”

Under the 2023 FMC CashBack program, farmers in Western Canada who buy at least $5,000 worth of eligible products in FMC’s slate of pre-seed and in-crop herbicides between November 1, 2022, and October 31, 2023, will receive a rebate cheque at the end of the season.

The rebates for qualifying products are based on these four spending levels (based on MSRP):

$5,000 to $29,999 — two per cent rebate on pre-seed herbicides, six per cent rebate on in-crop herbicides

$30,000 to $49,999 — four per cent rebate on pre-seed herbicides, nine per cent rebate on in-crop herbicides

$50,000 to $74,999 — six per cent rebate on pre-seed herbicides, 12 per cent rebate on in-crop herbicides

$75,000 or more — eight per cent rebate on pre-seed herbicides, 15 per cent rebate on in-crop herbicides

“Purchasing key builder products like Aim, Express brands and our broad spectrum of industry-leading insecticides, helps add to your rebate spending levels, increasing your savings,” says Brisebois.

Nufarm

Nufarm has a grower rewards program called Nufarmer Nation. It’s the second year of the program, which Nufarm’s head of marketing, Holly Nicoll, contends is “simple to qualify for and easy to understand.”

According to Nicoll, “Nufarm has products for pulses and cereals from the time the crop is seeded until it reaches the bin at the end of the year. Nufarmer Nation provides rewards for all farm sizes that purchase Nufarm products. There’s a lot of flexibility in the program for farmers and at the end of the day, they’ll be rewarded with some dollars back in their pockets. They don’t have to cut corners in terms of agronomics or economics on their farms.”

Nicoll says, “We want farmers to have a good experience with Nufarmer Nation. Our priority is ensuring rebates are paid on time for the correct amount to each customer.”

The first step in the program is to buy at least 160 acres of Valtera EZ or Fierce EZ soil active herbicides or Conquer II, a pre-seed burndown for canola.

From there, you can choose products from four different categories — seed treatments, pre-seed burndown herbicides, in-crop herbicides and fungicides — and qualify for rebates ranging from four to 12 per cent depending on how much you spend on builder products from Nufarm during the growing season.

Here’s how the purchase levels break down (spend categories based on suggested retail price):

$5,000 to $39,999 — four per cent rebate on all qualifying products

$40,000 to $84,999 — eight per cent rebate on seed treatments and pre-seed burndown herbicides, six per cent rebate on in-crop herbicides and fungicides

$85,000 or more — 12 per cent rebate on seed treatments and pre-seed burndown herbicides, eight per cent rebate on in-crop herbicides and fungicides

An online calculator for Nufarmer Nation rewards is available at nufarm.com. The eligibility period for the program ends August 31, 2023. For more details and to register for savings visit nufarm.com/ca/nufarmernation2023/.

Nutrien Ag Solutions

Nutrien Ag Solutions and Proven Seed have a rebate program called PV Profits, which includes seed, fertilizer and crop protection components. The program enables farmers to save money across all inputs and it also rewards sustainability best practices, as a new sustainability reward has been added for 2023 for farmers who book seed and enrol their acres under the Nutrien Sustainability Program.

Under the PV Profits programs, you earn rebates by matching acres of seed and fertilizer purchases and/or crop protection products. Qualifying products must be booked before specific deadlines.

The PV Profits program adds extra rebates per acre above the current payouts on the Nutrien Sustainability Program for producers who register and qualify for the program. Payouts on the Nutrien Sustainability Program are dependent on the sustainability protocol the farmer follows.

“I like this program because it enables growers to save money on seed, fertilizer and crop protection components, and offers further rebates to growers registered on the carbon program, which is Nutrien Sustainability,” says Jeremy Lacroix of Nutrien Ag Solutions.

“We also have the Priority Acre Program, which provides growers with a secure supply of glufosinate or glyphosate herbicide to cover their matching acres of canola seed, and we’ll continue to partner with suppliers throughout the growing season to offer programs on crop protection.”

Although some PV Profits deadlines have already passed, growers can still book and save money across crop protection, fertilizer and Proven Seed products, only through Nutrien Ag Solutions. Details on all of these programs are available through your local Nutrien Ag Solutions retailer.

Syngenta

Syngenta’s 2023 Partner Program for Western Canada has three components — the Portfolio Reward, the all-new Crop Bonus and the NK Soybean Seed Bonus.

The Portfolio Reward has three product categories for seed treatments, herbicides and fungicides. Buy at least 320 acres of qualifying products from two categories and you can save seven per cent. With purchases from three categories, you can save 10 per cent.

You can also increase your rebate by participating in the Crop Bonus. By matching 320 acres across different product categories for an individual crop (canola, cereals, soybeans and pulses), farmers can save two to 5.5 per cent on the suggested grower price for these purchases. The product segments are seed treatments, herbicides, fungicides and biologicals and plant growth regulators as a fourth category. For farmers buying products that can be used across multiple crops (Envita, Miravis Neo, Reglone Ion and others), there is a five per cent savings through the multi-crop product enabler.

The third aspect of the Partner Program, the NK Soybean Seed Bonus, offers a $2 per acre rebate for farmers growing a Syngenta NK soybean variety who buy 80 or more acres of a second NK variety.

As Jon Habok, customer marketing manager for Syngenta Canada, points out, there are several changes to Syngenta’s Partner Program for 2023. The Crop Bonus is one, and there’s also no longer a $25,000 minimum purchase requirement to qualify for the Partner Program. It has been replaced by an acreage requirement instead.

Habok says the changes were based on input received from farmers and retailers. “This makes it a lot easier for farmers across Western Canada to qualify for the Partner Program.”

Syngenta has also added Envita to the Partner Program, its new biological product for canola, cereals, pulses and other crops that Habok says turns the entire plant into “a nitrogen-fixing machine.”

Miravis Era, a fungicide for farmers looking to manage fusarium head blight in cereals, is another product on the Partner Program that Habok notes will be available to more farmers in 2023. Miravis Era was launched in Manitoba in 2022 but has been expanded to the dark brown and black soil zones of Saskatchewan in 2023.

The eligibility period for Syngenta’s 2023 Partner Program for Western Canada ends October 31. For more details and an online calculator for the program, visit syngenta.ca/partnerprogram/westindex.

UPL Canada

UPL Canada’s rebate program is called UPL Grower Rewards. It offers the biggest savings during the pre-season when farmers can earn 10 to 15 per cent in Smart Buy Rewards with a minimum 300-acre purchase of eligible products within UPL Canada’s extensive lineup of seed treatments, herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, biostimulants and plant growth regulators. The deadline for Smart Buy Rewards is February 15, but there are plenty of savings opportunities after that as well.

“Our barrier to entry is relatively small, and with our Smart Buy Rewards timing, we’re rewarding growers for booking their products early,” says Tony Dalgliesh, marketing manager for UPL Canada. “If you miss that deadline, we still have our Base Rewards, which would be your in-season opportunity for different products.”

Farmers can earn Base Rewards of five to 7.5 per cent by purchasing 160 acres of eligible products from UPL Canada by August 1. In addition, those who buy Interline and Select herbicides together (300-acre minimum) can get five per cent back on their purchases.

Also available is the Rancona Trio Bonus, which enables farmers to save two to five per cent if they buy at least 300 acres of Rancona Trio fungicide seed treatment plus another one or more eligible products.

With the Rancona Trio Top-Up Bonus, customers who buy 300 or more acres of Rancona Trio and at least 160 acres of either Evito, Roxar or Zolera FX fungicides or Ohm or Wave biostimulants can double their Base Rewards rebate up to 15 per cent.

As we all know, farming can be an expensive business. No surprise then when opportunities arise to save some cash on crop inputs, almost any farmer is going to sit up and take notice.

With this in mind (in alphabetical order), here’s our annual roundup of rebates available to western Canadian producers for the 2022 growing season.

BASF

Farmers can earn up to 25 per cent in rebates through the BASF Ag Rewards 2022 Western Canada Grower Program.

Producers can get up to nine per cent in Baseline Rewards by spending at least $20,000 and including qualifying products from at least two different categories or segments (there are four product segments in total: seed treatments, herbicides and broadleaf fungicides and cereal fungicides) with a minimum of 300 acres per segment. Another one per cent can be earned by purchasing $250,000 worth of Elite qualifying products.

Farmers can also get up to 20 per cent in InVigor Rewards by maintaining a minimum of two acres of InVigor hybrid canola for every acre of Liberty 150 SN herbicide they purchase, as long as they buy a minimum of 300 acres for each product.

Tim Bodvarson, commercial operations manager at BASF, says the 2022 Ag Rewards program has more choices for farmers and there are three new herbicides on offer as well — Smoulder, Voraxor and Certitude.

The Ag Rewards online calculator has also been retooled for 2022 to make it easier for farmers to determine their expected rewards, says Bodvarson. You can find the calculator at agro.basf.ca/AgSolutionsRewardCalculator/2022/West/index.html.

The eligibility period for the BASF Ag Rewards program ends September 30. For more program details, visit agriculture.basf.ca/west/programs-and-offers/ag-rewards.html. Farmers can also call 1-877-371-2273 or talk to their local BASF rep.

Bayer CropScience

BayerValue West Rewards is the rebate program offered by Bayer CropScience. It offers savings of up to 22 per cent on qualifying purchases in three product segments: seed treatments, herbicides and fungicides.

Through the Season Starter Bonus, farmers can save five per cent on eligible purchases if they buy a minimum of 300 acres of Bayer brand seed and/or Bayer trait products, or 600 acres of Bayer seed treatment.

If they buy qualifying products from two or three different segments (minimum 300 acres per segment), they can also save up to 10 per cent.

Through another feature of the program called The Incredible Bayer Offer, producers can get a seven per cent rebate if they book 1,000 acres of qualifying herbicides by March 4.

Bayer CropScience portfolio manager John Hanson says The Incredible Bayer Offer has been expanded for 2022 to include corn and soybean solutions in addition to cereals, and there are also new herbicide offerings that include Cirray and Laudis.

A new Innovation Reward has also been added to the BayerValue West program that showcases three new fungicide solutions, Hanson notes. Farmers can earn a two per cent rebate for purchasing a minimum of 1,000 acres of Proline Gold, Prosaro Pro and/or TilMOR fungicides. There’s also a seven per cent savings bonus for farmers who book 1,000 acres of qualifying herbicides with their retailers by March 4.

Farmers who sign up for BayerValue West Rewards are eligible to receive a complimentary one-year subscription to Bayer’s Climate FieldView platform and up to 50 per cent off the cost of the Climate FieldView hardware (offer applies to a maximum discount of $1,000 for select hardware purchased on the Climate FieldView order portal only). More details on the Climate FieldView offer are available at climatefieldview.ca/BayerValue.

Hanson states the BayerValue program is accessible to small and large growers alike, adding it rewards farmers for exploring and choosing more than one Bayer solution.

“Bayer believes we can cover most grower seed, crop protection and digital farming needs across all major crops,” he says.

The eligibility period for 2022 BayerValue West Rewards ends September 30, and farmers must register by May 1 to be eligible for program benefits. You can sign up by visiting cropscience.bayer.ca/Grower-Programs, contacting 1-888-283-6847, or by talking to a local retail or Bayer rep.

Corteva Agriscience

With Corteva Agriscience’s Flex+ Rewards program, farmers can get up to 18 per cent off the cost of eligible crop protection products.

Through the Seed Booster bonus, farmers can save three per cent on purchases of eligible crop protection products when they buy at least 300 acres of Pioneer seed and/or Brevant seed products. If they order their products by March 15, they qualify for an early booking rebate and can earn an additional three per cent.

The Flex+ program also rewards farmers who purchase from more than one category of eligible crop protection products. The categories are pre-seed herbicides, grass herbicides, broadleaf herbicides, cross-spectrum herbicides, canola and corn herbicides and fungicides.

For example, if you spend $5,000 to $24,999, you can save three per cent if you buy products from two different categories, six per cent if it’s from three categories and 10 per cent if it’s from four or more categories.

If you spend $25,000 to $99,999 or buy 300 acres of seed, the savings breakdown is as follows — five per cent for two categories, seven per cent for three categories and 11 per cent for four or more categories.

And if you spend more than $100,000 or buy 800 acres of seed, the savings are five per cent for two categories, eight per cent for three categories and 12 per cent for four or more categories.

“We really believe in making the program as flexible as possible, so we’re not forcing people into using a particular product,” says Kelly Bennett, Western Canada herbicides category leader at Corteva Agriscience Canada.

“We’re giving them lots of choice, basing it on categories where there are multiple products to choose from within the categories, so they can make the right agronomic decision and get rewards from the program.”

Corteva Agriscience also offers a 30 per cent discount on Lumivia CPL insecticide seed treatment with matching purchases of eligible pre-seed, grass, broadleaf or cross-spectrum herbicide products (minimum of 300 acres).

The eligibility period for the Flex+ Rewards program runs until August 31. You can find more details and the full product list at corteva.ca/en/offers/flex-rewards.html.

FMC’s rebate program is called FMC CashBack. Participating farmers who buy $5,000 worth of eligible FMC products receive up to 15 per cent off of qualifying herbicides. Producers can select any product in the FMC portfolio to enter the program, and there are no per-acre purchase minimums or ties to seed or herbicide traits.

Jordan Brisebois, product manager for FMC Canada, states FMC CashBack is designed to make things simple for growers and retailers. “We developed the program to ensure that growers could make the right agronomic decisions and the program would take care of the economics,” he says.

FMC CashBack has four rebate tiers that are based on spending at MSRP values $5,000 to $29,999, $30,000 to $49,999, $50,000 to $74,999 and $75,000-plus. Rebates range from two to eight per cent for pre-emergence herbicide products and from six to 15 per cent for in-crop herbicides. For more information on the FMC CashBack program visit ag.fmc.com/ca/en/programs/fmc-cashback-grower-program.

Farmers can also receive rebates of $2.50 to $5 per acre with FMC’s ACE Resistant Weeds Program when they purchase matching acres of qualifying herbicide products. Details can be found at ag.fmc.com/ca/en/ACE-resistant-weeds-program.

In addition, FMC offers another savings program called What’s Bugging You? where farmers who buy two or more 10-litre jugs of Pounce 384EC insecticide get a $100 per jug rebate on purchases of Coragen insecticide. For more details visit ag.fmc.com/ca/en/programs/whats-bugging-you.

The eligibility period for all three of these FMC programs ends on October 31.

Nutrien Ag Solutions

Nutrien Ag Solutions and Proven Seed have a rebate program called PV Profits, which includes seed, fertilizer and crop protection components, enabling farmers to save money across all inputs. To qualify for rebates through PV Profits, producers need to book qualifying products before specific deadlines.

Under the program, producers can earn a rebate of $1.10 per acre on matching seed and nitrogen purchases. If the seed booked is canola with an enhanced seed treatment like Buteo Start or Lumiderm, farmers can earn $0.50 per acre. They can save up to $1 per acre by matching Proven Seed Roundup Ready canola or corn with select glyphosates, or by matching Proven Seed LibertyLink canola with Interline herbicide. An additional $0.25 per acre can be earned if Shadow RTM herbicide is purchased for extra weed control.

The crop protection component of PV Profits includes a wide range of products from partner suppliers. By committing to buy 300 acres of Proven Seed canola, cereals, corn, mustard or soybeans before the booking deadline, producers can save between three to five per cent on eligible early booked crop protection purchases. The more farmers book and buy, the more they save.

Though some deadlines have already passed, growers can still book and save money across crop protection, fertilizer and Proven Seed products, only through Nutrien Ag Solutions. Details on all of these programs are available through your local Nutrien Ag Solutions retailer.

Syngenta

Syngenta’s 2022 Partner Program for Western Canada has four components — the Purchase Volume Reward, the Portfolio Reward, the Fundamentals Bonus and the Soybean Seed Bonus.

The Portfolio Reward provides farmers with an opportunity to save money by matching acres from three different product categories: seed treatments, herbicides and fungicides. Producers who match acres from any two categories of eligible products get a seven per cent rebate; if they match acres from all three Portfolio Reward categories, it goes up to 10 per cent.

Farmers who buy a minimum $25,000 of eligible Syngenta products can also save two to five per cent through the Purchase Volume Reward.

The Fundamentals Bonus enables farmers who buy 320 or more acres of Reglone Ion or Axial herbicide products to save five per cent on their purchases.

The Soybean Seed Bonus allows farmers to save $1 to $4 per acre on qualifying seed varieties by matching purchases with products from the Portfolio Reward categories.

Jon Habok, customer marketing manager for Syngenta Canada, says the lengthy list of products within the 2022 Partner Program touches on key aspects of crop production and provides farmers with plenty of choices.

The program features several new product offerings from Syngenta including Erebus Xtreme herbicide, a soybean seed treatment called Vayantis IV, and two new biological products, Draco and Megafol, Habok notes.

The eligibility period for Syngenta’s 2022 Partner Program ends October 31. For more details and an online calculator for program rewards, visit syngenta.ca/partnerprogram/westindex.aspx. Habok says farmers can also call 1-877-964-3682 or talk to their local retailers for more information.

UPL Agrosolutions

The UPL Grower Rewards Program offers farmers a number of different ways to earn cash back. The biggest savings come from buying earlier during the pre-season, when producers can earn 10 to 15 per cent in Smart Buy Rewards with a minimum 300-acre purchase of eligible products by February 15.

Farmers can save money on in-season purchases starting February 16, when they can earn Base Rewards of five to 7.5 per cent with a minimum 160-acre purchase of eligible products.

With the Rancona Trio Top-Up Bonus, customers who buy 300 or more acres of Rancona Trio and at least 160 acres of either Evito, Roxar or Zolera FX fungicides can double their Base Rewards rebate up to 15 per cent.

Chris Nowlan, portfolio marketing lead for UPL Canada, says the company is focusing on Rancona Trio as a starting place for farmers’ buying decisions within the UPL portfolio. The label for the cereal seed treatment was recently expanded to include pulses and Rancona Trio is now one of the only products in the market for the suppression of anthracnose in pulse crops, Nowlan notes.

The Grower Reward rebates are designed to offer farmers simplicity and flexibility as well as significant cash savings, says Nowlan. “Growers of all sizes can get up to 20 to 25 per cent rebate on their product purchases with the UPL program,” he says.

The eligibility period for the UPL Grower Rewards program runs until July 31. For more information and a Grower Rewards calculator, visit cloud.upl-naconnect.com/grower-rewards.

Once again, it’s time for the Grainews annual rebate roundup. While rebate programs aren’t the main factor in decision-making for the crop protection process, producers need to know their options. Without further ado, and in alphabetical order, here’s our annual roundup of available rebates in Western Canada for the 2021 growing season.

BASF

The 2021 BASF Ag Rewards Program helps Canadian farmers build a crop protection plan to grow healthier, higher-yielding crops, while maximizing savings — earning up to 22 per cent in rebates.

For 2021, two new products have been added to the BASF Ag Rewards Program. Teraxxa F4 seed treatment, a new mode of action cereal seed treatment that provides true wireworm control by breaking the lifecycle, has been added. Basagran Forté herbicide, which provides post-emergent control of some of the toughest broadleaf weeds in farmers’ pulse crops has been added to the program. Also new, when participants qualify for the baseline rewards and the InVigor reward, they are also eligible to earn $1 per acre on Liberty.

When planning for the upcoming crop year, the following are a few things to keep in mind:

Earn up to seven per cent, through baseline rewards, on qualifying products when purchasing a minimum of 300 acres from all three segments.

To further maximize the Ag Rewards Program, purchase a minimum of 300 acres of Liberty and 300 acres of InVigor. To further qualify, maintain a minimum purchase ration of one jug of Liberty for every two bags of InVigor.

Earn an additional two per cent through the Multiplier Bonus by purchasing a minimum of 300 acres of two products in the same segment.

BASF has created tools to help plan and count potential rewards, including an online calculator and video overview of the program. Check out the calculator here. Check out the two-minute program overview video here.

Farmers can connect with their local BASF rep or AgSolutions Customer Care at 1-877-371-BASF (2273) for support and to answer any questions.

Corteva Agriscience

Corteva Agriscience calls its producer rebate program Flex+ Rewards. If you max out this program, Corteva will rebate up to 18 per cent on eligible crop protection products. First, find your tier:

Core: $5,000 to $24,999

Core Plus: $25,000 – $99,000 or 300 acres of seed

Plus Max: $100,000 or more, or 800 acres of seed

These spend categories are based on MSRP, not necessarily the price you pay your retailer.

Second, choose products that meet your farm operations’ needs. If you’re in the Core tier choosing products from two categories, your rebate will be three per cent. In the Core Plus tier, you could save up to 10 per cent if you purchase from four categories. The highest tier — Plus Max — allows you to save up to 12 per cent on eligible purchases. The product categories eligible for a rebate are: pre-seed, grass herbicides, broadleaf herbicides, cross-spectrum fungicides and canola and corn herbicides.

Receive another one per cent on your crop protection purchases with the Seed Booster Bonus by purchasing at least 300 acres of Pioneer seed and/or Brevant seed products.

Third, save even more when you commit early. There’s another three per cent rebate if you book with your retailer by March 15, 2021, and an additional two per cent rebate if your product is invoiced and picked up by April 15, 2021. Find the details and full product lists here.

FMC Canada

FMC’s rebate program is called FMC CashBack. Purchase at least $5,000 worth of eligible FMC products between November 1, 2020, and October 31, 2021, and receive up to 15 per cent off of qualifying herbicides.

FMC CashBack rebate tiers are based on spending at MSRP. There are four tiers: $5,000 to $29,999, $30,000 to $49,999, $50,000 to $74,999 and $75,000-plus.

Use products like Aim EC, Express brands, PrecisionPac burnoff blends and FMC insecticides as builders to increase your return. Pre-herbicide rebates range from two to eight per cent and in-crop herbicide rebates range from six to 15 per cent.

Producers can select any product in the FMC portfolio as an entry point to the program, there is no tie to seed or herbicide traits. FMC has one of the lowest dollar value grower program entry points. There are no matching acres, no booking program and no mandatory sign up. With FMC Cashback, producers can choose agronomics and economics in one program. Find the details here.

Nutrien Ag Solutions

Nutrien Ag Solutions and Proven Seed have a rebate program called PV Profits. The program includes crop protection, fertilizer and seed components, giving producers the ability to save across all inputs as a rebate on account. To qualify for rebates through PV Profits, producers need to book qualifying products before specific deadlines.

Producers can earn a rebate of $1.10 per acre on matching seed and nitrogen purchases. When matching Proven Seed Roundup Ready canola or corn with Roundup or Proven Seed LibertyLink canola with Interline producers can save $1.00 per acre. An additional $0.25 per acre can be earned if Shadow herbicide is purchased for extra weed control. Producers that are using Proven Seed TruFlex canola varieties have an opportunity to receive an extra $0.50 per acre on matching Roundup acres if the seed is booked before January 31, 2021.

The crop protection component of the PV Profits Program includes a wide range of products from partner suppliers. By committing to buy 300 acres of Proven Seed canola, cereals, corn, mustard or soybeans before the booking deadline, producers can save between three to five per cent on all qualifying early booked crop protection purchases. The more farmers book and buy, the more they save.

Though some deadlines have already passed, growers can still book and save across crop protection, fertilizer and Proven Seed, only through Nutrien Ag Solutions. Details on all these programs are available through your local Nutrien Ag Solutions retailer.

Syngenta

Qualify for the Syngenta Partner Program by purchasing a minimum $25,000 of eligible Syngenta products, which includes several new products for 2021. There are three main components to the program: the Portfolio Reward, the Soybean Seed Bonus and the Purchase Volume Reward.

Once you meet the $25,000 criteria, receive up to 10 per cent off on matching acres through the Portfolio Reward and save two to six per cent overall on eligible products through the Purchase Volume Reward. Further save an additional $1 to $4 per acre with the Soybean Seed Bonus.

Also, in 2021, save when you take control of your harvest with the Reglone Ion Bonus where you can earn five per cent on all Reglone Ion purchases, based on Partner Program qualifications. Call 1-87-SYNGENTA (1-877-964-3682) or find the details (and the calculator) online.

Bayer Crop Science

In 2021, Bayer Crop Science continues to offer incredible value to producers through the BayerValue Rewards Programs. Program members are also eligible to receive a complimentary one-year subscription to the Climate FieldView platform and up to 50 per cent off the cost of the Climate FieldView hardware (offer applies to a maximum rebate of $2,000 for select hardware purchased on the Climate FieldView order portal only. For full details, click here).

Details for the 2021 BayerValue West Rewards Program (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and Peace River region of British Columbia) includes the following:

When farmers purchase a minimum of 300 acres of qualifying seed treatments, herbicides or fungicides, they can save up to 19 per cent.

With the purchase of a minimum of 300 acres of seed or 600 acres of seed treatment, farmers save up to five per cent on seed treatments, herbicides and fungicides with the Season Starter bonus.

When farmers treat a minimum of 300 acres of eligible trait canola with Prosper EverGol and Buteo Start, they get an extra two per cent off of their purchases with the Buteo Start bonus.

Through the Incredible Bayer Offer, farmers who book 1,000 acres of Bayer cereal herbicides by March 12, 2021, can also save up to $2 per acre on eligible products.

Additional savings and information includes the following:

Potato producers are also eligible for additional savings through the Hot Potato Rewards Program.

Farmers can calculate their savings with the new 2021 BayerValue Rewards calculator. The easy-to-use calculator requires only a few simple inputs to help producers maximize their savings.

Producers must be registered by May 1, 2021, to be eligible for BayerValue Rewards Program benefits. Sign up by visiting GrowerPrograms.ca, contacting 1-888-283-6847, or by talking to a local retail or Bayer rep.

Everyone likes a rebate. Cash-back cheques are nice to have, but we know they don’t have a lot of influence over your purchasing decisions. It would be much more helpful if you could turn to these pages and see the actual product prices.

I’m sure you’ve noticed that most news stories about improved fungicides, newly-registered herbicides, or new, more effective seed treatments have one thing in common: they almost never include a price.

If we’re running a story about a new product that could increase your yields by up to two bushels per acre, there’s no way for you (or me) to know if the product is going to make sense for you until you have some idea what it’s going to cost. Stories about potential insect damage would be more helpful if our articles included the cost of chemical control. But we can’t get pricing information. I ask, but while corporate PR reps are happy to talk about the quality of their products, nobody wants to give me a number.

There are lots of reasons that input companies don’t want me including fungicide prices in Grainews stories. They’re in direct competition with other suppliers. They may want to offer some customers a better deal than others. Maybe pricing will vary by supply.

Per acre, per carton, per litre, per box. You almost never see the price in a newspaper story, an ad, or even in the fancy brochures sent directly to you in the mail.

Of course not all farmers pay the same prices. Some book and pay early. Some buy huge quantities and pick it up themselves. Some have been loyal to their retailer for decades. Charging different prices to different farmers isn’t unfair — it’s just business.

But couldn’t they show us a suggested retail price?

Nobody buying a new truck imagines they’re going to pay the exact price shown on the window of the vehicles parked in the lot. And yet, every dealer in town displays their prices on windows and in newspaper ads.

Looking for a combine? Case IH has a “build and price” section right on its website. This information is available to everyone, even though no farmer would expect to actually pay the exact price that turns up on the screen (or if they do, you can bet they’ve had some careful discussions around the trade in).

If all ag input companies published suggested retail prices, it would be a lot easier for farmers to know which products would be the best fit for on their farms. It would also make it easier for farmers to comparison shop, play one retailer against another and get better deals. I can’t make it happen, but I can keep asking.

Washington | Reuters — Monsanto will pay US$80 million to settle civil accounting violations after it allegedly misstated its earnings in connection with its top-selling Roundup product, U.S. securities regulators said Tuesday.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) also said three accounting and sales executives have agreed to settle charges in connection with the case.

The SEC’s case against Monsanto revolves around a corporate rebate program designed to boost sales of Roundup, a popular weed killer. The rebate program was created to combat rising generic competition which threatened to cut into the company’s profits.

The agency said that Monsanto had insufficient internal controls to account for millions of dollars in rebates that it offered to retailers and distributors. It ultimately booked a sizeable amount of revenue, but then failed to recognize the costs of the rebate programs on its books.

That led the St. Louis-based agriculture company to “materially” misstate its consolidated earnings for a three-year period.

In a statement, the company said it fully reserved funds to pay for the penalty in fiscal year 2015.

Monsanto added that it is not required to change any of its historical statements because the company already previously in 2011 restated its financial statements for fiscal year 2009 through the third quarter of fiscal year 2011.

“Public companies need to have robust systems in place to ensure that all of their transactions are recognized in the correct reporting report,” said Scott Friestad, the SEC’s associate director for the enforcement division.

In agreeing to settle, Monsanto neither admitted nor denied the charges, which include fraud. The agency did not charge the company with knowingly committing the violations.

Monsanto accounting executives Sara Brunnquell, Anthony Hartke and then-sales executive Jonathan Nienas also each agreed to pay penalties.

Brunnquell and Hartke will also be temporarily suspended from acting as accountants for public companies.

Attorneys for Brunnquell and Hartke did not have any immediate comment. An attorney for Nienas could not be immediately reached.

The SEC said it did not uncover any personal misconduct by Monsanto CEO Hugh Grant or former chief financial officer Carl Casale.

Grant and Casale previously reimbursed the company for cash bonuses and stock awards they received during the periods the violations occurred.

— Sarah N. Lynch reports on financial regulations and financial crime for Reuters from Washington, D.C. Additional reporting for Reuters by Lisa Lambert in Washington.

Many major chemical companies have simplified their rebate and reward programs for western Canadian farmers this year. Most companies have built their programming around farmer loyalty to one brand, and designed programs with bigger discounts for bigger farms.

Arysta LifeScience

Arysta LifeScience offered an Early Purchase Offer on Everest 2.0. If you bought an Everest 2.0 Smartboy (10 specially packaged jugs of Everest 2.0) prior to Jan. 31, 2014 you received an instant discount of $1,200 per Smartboy.

Arysta is also offering an opportunity to save on its new grass and broadleaf burn-down herbicide Inferno Duo. If you purchase between Feb. 15 and March 31, 2014 you’ll get an instant discount of $0.50 per acre ($40 per canister).

These are the only two purchase programs Arysta offers. Instead, Arysta LifeScience says, its marketing strategy is to simplify the game by offering best-in-class products with competitive pricing.

BASF

BASF has simplified its western Canadian AgSolutions Rewards program for 2014. To qualify you must purchase at least two qualifying BASF products. The list of pesticides which can be used to qualify can be found on the BASF website at www.agsolutions.ca. The website also has a calculator so you can predetermine your reward savings.

Once you are qualified, you earn a rebate on purchases of most BASF products. The percentage rebated is based on the total number of acres to which qualified products are applied. If you apply at least 400 acres of qualifying products you’ll earn a three per cent rebate on herbicides, six per cent on Headline and Caramba fungicide, 12 per cent on Lance fungicide and 12 per cent on BASF seed treatments.

For growers with more acres, these rates increase incrementally to a maximum of five per cent rebate on herbicides, 10 per cent on Headline and Caramba, 16 per cent on Lance and 16 per cent on BASF seed treatments. As an additional bonus, qualifying acres are doubled when calculating the rebate on fungicide purchases.

Only products purchased between Oct. 1, 2013 and Sept. 30, 2014 are eligible for rebates, and you must register by Nov. 30, 2014. Register through your retailer, through your BASF representative or by calling BASF AgSolutions Customer Care at 1-877-371-2273.

Bayer CropScience

Bayer CropScience is expanding its BayerValue program for the 2014 growing season. This program provides savings based on your total purchases of Bayer CropScience products between Oct. 1, 2013 and Sept. 30, 2014.

There are a number of components to the BayerValue program. First, there is an incremental rebate on qualifying Bayer CropScience products. Purchase $20,000 to $59,999 of Bayer Products to earn a three per cent rebate on Infinity, Velocity M3, Tundra or Varro herbicides, and a five per cent rebate on Proline, Prosaro, Propulse and Folicur EW fungicide purchases. You can qualify for a $1 per acre rebate when using Decis insecticide and a $1 per acre rebate on purchases of Raxil Pro, Raxil MD, Trilex Evergol and Evergol Energy.

Purchase $60,000 to $119,999 of Bayer products to increase your rebate on herbicides to four per cent and on fungicides to six per cent. The top increment is for purchases of $120,000 or more — the herbicide rebate jumps to five per cent and fungicide rebate to seven per cent.

The second component is an early booking offer for InVigor hybrid canola. If you booked a minimum 300 acres of InVigor by Jan. 31, you received an additional five per cent rebate on Infinity, Velocity M3, Tundra and Varro herbicides, as well as Prosaro, Folicur EW and Propulse fungicides. The rebate increased to eight per cent on Proline fungicide.

The third component is the Cereal Winter Sale. Book a minimum of $12,000 (based on standard retail prices) of specific Bayer CropScience cereal herbicides by March 10, 2014 for a five per cent rebate on those herbicides.

The fourth component is the Cereal Saver. Purchase a minimum of 480 acres of products from at least two of the three cereal categories: cereal/pulse seed treatments, cereal herbicides, and cereal/pulse fungicides. The Cereal Saver qualifies you to receive an additional three per cent off cereal herbicides and cereal/pulse fungicides. You will also receive an additional $1 per acre back on qualifying cereal/pulse seed treatments.

The final component is the Puma Advance Full Rate rebate. Instantly save $1 per acre on Puma Advance purchases.

If you participated in the 2013 Bayer Value Program you will automatically be re-enrolled for 2014. If you were not registered last year, contact the Bayer CropScience Rebate Fulfilment Interaction Centre at 1-888-283-6847 before May 1, 2014 to register.

From the Canadian Cattlemen website: Planning for 2014

Dow AgroSciences

Dow AgroSciences is continuing to offer the Dividends program it introduced in 2011. Rewards are calculated as a dollar per acre payment. The amount of the payment depends on the mix of Dow AgroSciences products used.

Dow AgroSciences categorizes its products into four groups. The first group of cereal grass and one-pass products includes Tandem, Simplicity and Liquid Achieve. You must use a minimum of 320 acres of any one or combination of these three herbicides to qualify for a rebate. As was the case last year, 320 acres of Nexera will also qualify you for the Dividends program.

Once qualified, you earn rebates by matching qualifying acres with purchases of a Dow AgroSciences cereal broadleaf product (the second group of products) and/or a canola and special crop product (the third group). In the 2014 program, Tandem automatically qualifies for the $1 per acre reward without requiring matching acres from other categories. Liquid Achieve is not eligible for a rebate, but can still be used as a builder to qualify other products for a reward.

Dow AgroSciences glyphosate products are the fourth group category and if purchased, increase any reward you’ve qualified for.

Dow AgroSciences is also continuing the Bulk Up component of the Dividends program. Purchases of bulk packaged PrePass before Feb. 20, 2014 will increase the reward by up to $0.50 an acre. Rebates also increase if you purchase bulk-packaged OcTTain XL, Attain XC, Frontline XL, or Stellar, Tandem, Simplicity, Liquid Achieve and/or Prestige XC before March 20.

If you participate in both components of Dividends, you can save up to $5 an acre on Dow AgroSciences purchases. There is a Dividends calculator at www.dowagrodividends.ca to help you figure it all out.

If you have not previously completed an offer form giving Dow AgroSciences permission to collect the information they need to calculate this rebate, you must do so before Nov. 30, 2014. Dow AgroSciences product purchases between Dec. 1, 2013 and Nov. 30, 2014 qualify for the Dividends program.

For further information, call the Dow AgroSciences Solutions Centre at 1-800-667-3852.

DuPont

DuPont FarmCare Connect Grower Program is a joint offering from DuPont Pioneer and DuPont Crop Protection in 2014.

Unlike the FarmCare program offered last year, you no longer need to enrol. You’re automatically enrolled when they purchase a qualifying product: 140 acres of D-Series or Pioneer brand canola hybrids, or 140 acres of Pioneer brand corn, soybean, or sunflower, or a minimum of eight jugs of DuPont Vertisan or four jugs of DuPont Acapela fungicide.

The combined total purchase of these products plus a long list of other DuPont pesticides and Pioneer branded seed determine the rebate you’ll earn on a number of DuPont burn-down herbicides, in-crop herbicides, insecticides and fungicides. A complete list of these builder and rebate eligible products can be found on the DuPont FarmCare Connect website. Search for “farmcare” at www.dupont.ca

Rebates range from four per cent if you purchase a minimum of $10,000 worth of qualifying and builder products all the way up to 12 per cent for total purchases over $150,000

You can save even more with the Matching Acre Bonus component of the 2014 FarmCare program. A purchase of at least 320 acres of Acapela, Assure II, Express Pro, Express SG, Precision Pac NC-0050, Precision Pac NC-00439, Precision Pac DB-858, Triton K, or Vertisan earns a $1 per acre rebate on matching acres of DuPont cereal broadleaf brands.

Mana Canada

MANA Canada says it strives to create simplicity in agriculture, both in its products and business approach, and therefore provides quality products without forcing growers to sign up for mandatory bundling or complicated rebate programs. Rather than provide a cash back program, MANA Canada says its promise is to work with their customers to create the best return on investment.

Monsanto

Monsanto is again offering a 100 per cent replant guarantee on DEKALB canola and corn seed planted after April 15 and DEKALB soybean seeded after May 1. If you have to reseed, Monsanto will provide replacement seed. You must reseed to the same crop using DEKALB brand seed. Application for reseeding must be made to seed retailers before June 20, 2014.

Monsanto is offering interest free financing until fall 2014 on all DEKALB seed through Agricard and John Deere Financial.

Western Canadian growers who tank mix Roundup Transorb HC or Roundup Ultra 2 with Heat or Distinct will receive $0.50 per acre for all acres where this tank mix is applied.

Details of both these herbicide offers are available at www.JustTryMe.ca.

Nufarm

Nufarm has two “business made easy” offers for Western Canada in 2014. The first is a performance guarantee on its new burn-off product Blackhawk. If you are not satisfied with the burn-off after using Blackhawk, Nufarm representatives will inspect the field. If they deem Blackhawk did not perform as stated on the label, Nufarm will provide an in-crop broadleaf product that will get the weeds Blackhawk missed on up to 640 acres where Blackhawk had been applied.

Nufarm is also introducing Enforcer, a new in-crop broadleaf product for the control of kochia, cleavers and wild buckwheat in cereals. As an introductory special, Nufarm is offering a 50 per cent savings on the first 80 acres of this product purchase (based on the suggested retail price of Enforcer). The savings will rebated via gift card.

Both these offers require registration. Do it online at www.nufarm.ca or call 1-800-868-5444.

Syngenta

Syngenta has made it easier to take advantage of the Syngenta Partner Program for 2014. To qualify, purchase a minimum $15,000 of eligible Syngenta products. New products added to the Partner Program for 2014 include Vibrance Maxx for pulses, new canola varieties SY4114 and SY4135 and the new wheat variety SY433.

Rebate percentages are calculated by totalling the purchases of most Syngenta crop establishment, crop management, crop enhancement and harvest management products. The Partner Program Calculator and the Rules and Regulations can be found on the Syngenta website, www.SyngentaFarm.ca.

A total purchase value of $15,000 in Syngenta products earns you a three per cent rebate, and this increases incrementally. Earn up to a nine per cent savings for purchases of $250,000 or more. Syngenta seed (canola, cereals, sunflowers, corn and soybeans) is not eligible for savings but seed purchases are used as builder products to increase the rebate percentage rate.

Syngenta has improved its Crop Enhancement Bonus this year. If you qualify for the Partner Program, you can earn an additional $3 per acre rebate on Astound, Quilt and Fuse fungicides when matched with acres treated with Traxos, Sierra 2.0, Broadband or Axial products. You can further match those fungicide acres with acres treated with Seedcare products such as Cruiser Maxx Vibrance Cereals, Vibrance Maxx, Cruiser Maxx Vibrance Beans, Apron Advance and Vibrance XL.

New this year is the Cruiser Maxx Vibrance Beans Bonus. If you qualify for the Partner Program, you can earn an additional five per cent on all purchases of Cruiser Maxx Vibrance Beans.

If you participated in the 2013 Partner Program, you are automatically registered for 2014. If not, call the Syngenta Customer Resource Centre at 1-87-SYNGENTA (1-877-964-3682) to register.

UAP explains that it keeps things simple with competitive net pricing — no hassles and no rebate forms. †
