Are you getting ready to do a coolant flush on an engine? Here’s a cheap alternative to buying a commercial engine-flushing treatment. Just use regular household vinegar. Mix a 50-50 solution of vinegar and water, fill the cooling system and run the engine for about 10 minutes, then drain it out and flush the engine thoroughly with water.
The vinegar will loosen rust and lime deposits inside the water passages to improve cooling system efficiency. Don’t believe it? Take a look at the picture below. This old, rusty pin was left soaking in a cup full of vinegar for a few days. Decades of accumulated rust are now flaking off.
