Last November, New Holland announced it had reached a milestone in large square baler production. The 30,000th machine rolled off the assembly line at the brand’s Zedelgem, Belgium, factory, which produces combines, balers and forage harvesters for NH’s global market. NH has been building large square balers since 1987.
The 30,000th machine was given a “commemorative decal” to mark its significance, according to factory staff.
New Holland brand president, Carlo Lambro, said, “Reaching the milestone of 30,000 large square balers is a big accomplishment for New Holland, and in particular for all the people who have built this rich heritage of innovation, and kept our large square balers in the No. 1 position to this day.”
Of course, New Holland first built its corporate reputation on baler innovation and production, which most people associate with the small square baler. However, the brand lays claim to a few boasts in its large square baler line as well, including double-knot technology and electronic proportional density control.
Today’s flagship BigBaler models offer some other high-end features, such as the SmartFill sensor for uniform consistency in bales and IntelliCruise, which controls the tractor’s forward speed to maximize baler capacity and add to the baler’s ability to create more uniform bales.
The BigBaler High Density debuted two unique features that won it industry recognition — the SmartShift gearbox, a unique driveline concept that won a Silver Innovation Award at the 2019 Agritechnica. It significantly increases productivity, enhances operator comfort and improves tractor driveline protection. The second is the Loop Master knotting system, which is a double knotter.
The high-density baler was also named Machine of the Year 2020 in the forage harvesting category by a panel of ag machinery journalists representing the leading European agricultural publications.
This year, the ASABE (American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers) also awarded the 340 BigBaler High Density with one of its AE50 awards for design innovations.
