Add one more John Deere product line to the list of those getting updates for the 2022 model year. This time the brand has turned its attention to its 5M series utility tractors, giving them a more impressive options list and adding one more model, the 5125M, to the top end of the group, bringing the maximum horsepower rating for the series to 125.
The 5M models are a mid-spec’d range of tractors, appealing to those who want a little more than basic features but aren’t interested in moving all the way up to the pricier high-end 5R models. The updated 5M options list now allows producers to get just a little closer to what the premium 5R series offers.
Deere clearly has hay and livestock producers along with other commercial buyers, such as municipalities, in mind with this new list of features, which adds a base version of the brand’s integrated AutoTrac guidance system. It’s available as a factory-installed option on models equipped with the PowrQuad transmission, which is also a new option for the 5Ms.
“No other utility tractor on the market offers this level of integrated guidance on a mid-spec utility tractor, making the productivity potential of the 5M series unmatched,” Greg Christensen, marketing manager for John Deere, said in a press release. “This low-cost, entry-level guidance system, can later be upgraded by plugging in a premium display for mapping and prescription-based applications.”
Christensen said these new features are a response to what customers were asking for to make tractor operation easier, particularly with the more sophisticated transmission.
“Now, John Deere makes the PowrQuad transmissions available on the 5090M, 5100M and 5115M cab versions and includes it in base equipment on the newly added 125-horsepower 5125M, which is only available with a cab,” he adds.
“PowrQuad transmissions make it easy for operators to find the right speed with clutchless, push-button shifting between gears, allowing them to focus on their work.”
Three-point hitch lift capacity gets a boost on those 5M tractors equipped with PowrQuad transmissions too. That significantly improves their ability to handle larger implements. And the new, optional panoramic cab roof improves visibility for the operator to make loader operations easier and safer.
Another new feature for the 5Ms is Deere’s Smart Connector digital system. It’s an entry-level connectivity option that makes it easy for customers who don’t have a telematics system subscription to monitor their equipment. A Bluetooth connection transfers data from the tractor to a mobile device, so users can track maintenance intervals and machine performance. Information from Smart Connector is accessed on a mobile device through the TractorPlus app.
Smart Connector is a dealer-installed option available as a parts kit, but it’s only compatible with some of the 5 series tractors.
The updated model year 2022 5M tractors with the expanded options list are available to order for delivery later this year.
