Global Markets: Work to end sexual violence wins Nobel Peace Prize

WINNIPEG, Oct. 5 (CNS Canada) – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

– The Nobel Peace Prize was jointly awarded to Yazidi rights activist Nadia Murad and Dr. Denis Mukwege of the Democratic Republic of Congo for their work combating the use of sexual violence as weapon of war and helping survivors.

– Canada’s economy gained 63,000 jobs in September, according to a report from Statistics Canada. The jobs growth was largely in part-time employment, and saw the unemployment rate edge down to 5.9 per cent, from 6.0 per cent in August.

– The jobless rate in the United States fell to 3.7 per cent in September, hitting its lowest rate since 1969.
