Global Markets: Canada’s trade deficit widens

WINNIPEG, August 4 (CNS Canada) – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

– Canada’s trade deficit widened in the month of June, compared to the month previous. Exports declined due to fewer shipments of metals and energy. In June, exports declined by a hefty 4.3% to C$46.51 billion.

– Canadian footwear giant Aldo is taking over a major rival. The Camuto Group has brands in over 5,000 stores around the world. Aldo, which operates more than 3,000 stores in over 100 countries, has reached an agreement to buy the brand for an undisclosed sum.

– Bell Canada recorded net earnings of C$811 million in the second quarter. The company said better wireless results and postpaid net additions were largely responsible for the increase. The company added 106,000 broadband subscribers.
