Global Markets: Bitcoin tops gold for first time ever

WINNIPEG, March 3 (CNS Canada) – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

– Bitcoin climbed to its highest levels ever on Friday, following a move by the cryptocurrency to trade above the price of an ounce of gold for the first time. Tighter currency restrictions in a number of countries, together with expectations for looser regulations under the new US government were behind some of the support.

– US President Donald Trump’s administration intends to ‘act aggressively as needed’ in order to protect US trade interests, according to a report presented to Congress.

– US Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen is set to give a speech later today that should shed some light on the Fed’s interest rate ideas.
