Canada’s biggest dairy processor has a new chief heading up its Canadian dairy division.

Montreal-based Saputo Inc. announced Friday it named Carl Colizza, today the Canadian dairy division’s senior vice-president for strategic business development, as the division’s president and chief operating officer.

Colizza, who’s worked for Saputo since 1998 and held several senior management posts during that time, will report to Dino Dello Sbarba, Saputo’s president and COO.

As the Canadian dairy division’s COO, Colizza replaces Lorenzo Spinelli, who has also worked for Saputo since 1998 and was named the dairy division president in April 2012.

Saputo — also the third and fourth biggest dairy processor in Argentina and Australia respectively, among the 10 biggest dairy firms worldwide and one of the top three cheese manufacturers in the U.S. — said Friday that Spinelli will step down from his post effective April 1.

In its latest quarterly financial report, released earlier this week, Saputo said its Canada sector expects a “challenging” fiscal 2015 “due to competitive market conditions, which are expected to keep downward pressure on margins.”

That said, Saputo’s Canadian dairy sector “continues evaluating growth opportunities and possible cost synergies in an effort to mitigate these conditions.” — Network
