CNS Canada — Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world pulse markets on Friday morning, October 23.
• The price of chickpeas in India could soon soften slightly. According to the Indian Pulses and Grain Association, a large shipment of pulses at Mumbai port could reduce pulses by 10 to 15 per cent in the next couple of weeks.
• Reports out of India suggest that bad weather could be one of the reasons why some merchants have been stockpiling pulses. Authorities carried out raids recently for what they said was hoarding.
• The Brazilian Agricultural Research Corp. reports that a new bean has been developed with vitamin B9 that is almost 84 times higher than conventional beans. Researchers in Brazil and Mexico teamed up to create the genetically-modified variety of bean.
