The Nova Scotia agency tasked with boosting awareness and consumption of the province’s food products is offering sponsorships of community suppers featuring local food.
Select Nova Scotia said Friday it still has 12 of 24 sponsorships available worth $500 each for community groups that would like to hold what the agency has branded “IncrEdible Community Suppers.”
The IncrEdible suppers are billed as “fun, family events” which are “accessible and affordable, featuring items produced in Nova Scotia that use simple, seasonal recipes.”
Eligible events are not limited to suppers and could be a breakfast, brunch or lunch indoors or outdoors, during February or early March, Select NS said.
The suppers are considered as a way to encourage partnerships and can involve a “wide range” of community organizations such as farmers, food markets, schools, churches and service clubs, the province said.
A group applying for an IncrEdible event sponsorship must ensure all food safety and insurance requirements are met; promote the local event using community bulletin boards, public service announcements and social media; provide the planned menu to be posted to the Select NS website; use the Select Nova Scotia logo; direct profits, if any, to community or school activities; and submit a evaluation report (questionnaire will be provided) and photos afterward.
“Select Nova Scotia is sponsoring these winter harvest celebrations throughout the month to bring people together and showcase local food,” Agriculture Minister John MacDonell said in Friday’s release.
