CropWatch 2011: Peace could use some rain

Crops in Alberta’s Peace River region are “variable” with most areas in need of moisture, according to reports in Wednesday’s CropWatch.

Later-seeded canola fields are just germinating now with recent showers, according to the Peace crop report posted by Dunvegan AG Solutions. Grasshopper pressure is “moderate to high” in some areas.

Also in Wednesday’s CropWatch, Manitoba’s provincial entomologist John Gavloski reports on plans to extend diamondback moth monitoring, and on flea beetles digging into canola seedlings.

Keep us posted on crop progress, unusual weather or pest problems in your area, as well as any questions you may have about a particular problem in the fields.
