CropChatter: Can fall N help spring-seeded crop in winter wheat wreck?

Question: I fertilized my winter wheat last fall. However, I made the decision to terminate the winter wheat field this spring and reseed to canola. What can one expect for fertilizer carry over for this year’s canola?

The amount of nitrogen remaining for a spring-seeded canola crop will be affected by the timing of fall N application, the amount of rainfall received in May, and soil type, MAFRI’s John Heard says on Manitoba’s CropChatter website.

CropChatter is a forum where farmers and public and private agronomists can share the latest information on crop management in Manitoba. Producers are invited to submit questions to the site.
