Valent Canada has picked up registration for a new plant growth regulator for use in sweet and sour cherry crops for the 2010 growing season.
ProGibb 40 SG is a formulation of gibberellic acid that has “superior” dissolution and dispersal properties compared to tablet formulations, Valet said in a recent release.
In sweet cherries, the company said, ProGibb 40 SG can delay fruit ripening by as much as four to five days to help lengthen the harvest window. The product is also is “proven” to increase fruit size, firmness and resistance to post-harvest disorders, the company said.
In sour cherries, the product maintains and extends tree fruiting capacity by promoting spur formation and reducing the occurrence of blind nodes, the company said.
