Bee Maid boosts processing capacity

Winnipeg’s Bee Maid Honey has unveiled a new production line with a goal of raising its sales of packed honey by one million pounds per year.

Bee Maid, which bills itself as North America’s largest single-source honey marketer, on Friday said its added equipment has only been online for a short time but has already boosted production efficiency by 20 per cent.

The new line consists of a new liquid honey filler, bottle orientator and labeler, the company said.

“Not only will our new processing line improve packing
efficiencies, it will allow Bee Maid to package honey in a wider variety of
containers,” CEO Guy Chartier said in a release.

Bee Maid said its investment of over $500,000 will support the continued growth of Manitoba’s $20 million beekeeping industry and offer more opportunities to boost returns for its beekeeper members across Western Canada.

Bee Maid sells honey domestically as well as in the U.S., China, Germany, Japan, and Saudi Arabia.
