The 2019 rebate roundup

Just cashed your rebate cheque from 2018? Find out what’s new for this year

Once again, it’s time for the Grainews annual rebate roundup.

For most farmers, rebate programs aren’t the main factor in the decision-making process. A rebate program falls far behind factors like choosing the right product, buying from a retailer you like, and of course the actual price.

But, everyone likes a rebate! Especially when the cheque comes in the mail right after the holidays, and manages to hit the mail box on the same day as your Christmas credit card bill.

This year, with all of the changes in the input industry, it’s a little hard to remember who’s selling you what, and giving you what kind of rebate program. We hope the Rebate Roundup will help with that.

In alphabetical order, here’s our annual round up of available rebates in Western Canada for the 2019 growing season.

Arysta LifeScience

Arysta LifeScience calls its rebate program the Grower Rewards Program. There’s more money if you buy early. Buy EVEREST 3.0 herbicide and receive a rebate of $2/acre; this falls to $1/acre if you buy between February 16 and July 31, 2019.

When you buy RANCONA TRIO seed treatment, RANCONA PINNACLE seed treatment, INFERNO TRIO burndown herbicide, INFERNO DUO burndown herbicide or EVITO fungicide, you receive a rebate of $1/acre, falling to $0.50/acre between February 16 and July 31, 2019.

Purchase two or more brands to get bonus rewards on matching acres: $1/acre with two matching brands, $2/acre with three or more brands.

BASF

BASF’s rebate program for western Canadian farmers is called BASF Ag Rewards. If you’re seeding InVigor canola, you can earn up to 27 per cent on BASF cereal seed treatment, up to 20 per cent on BASF fungicides and up to 17 per cent on qualifying herbicides for purchases made between October 1, 2018 and September 30 2019.

No need to register. Just buy $20,000 worth of BASF products including seed or crop protection products, and purchase 300 acres from two of the four product segments to qualify for the baseline rewards. There is a Heat Bonus and a Clearfield Lentil Bonus. Qualify for the InVigor Reward by purchasing 300 acres of InVigor canola and Liberty Herbicide. Want the Elite Reward? Spend $250,000 on BASF products.

Bayer

This year, Bayer’s included more than 50 brands in its BayerValue program. Max it out and your rebate could be up to 18 per cent.

Roundup Ready seed and Acceleron BioAg are included this year, with savings when you buy 300 acres. Bayer says the program is more integrated: buy 320 acres of Roundup Ready seed and be qualified for both Real Farm Rewards and BayerValue.

In other areas, the segment rewards are the same as last year’s BayerValue program. The Incredible Bayer Offer will continue, with rebates up to $2/acre on select cereal herbicides.

There are three segments:

1. SeedGrowth: Rebates up to 16 per cent on EverGol Energy, Raxil PRO, Raxil PRO Shield, Stress Shield, Trilex EverGol and Trilex EverGol Shield.

2. Herbicides: Rebates up to 16 per cent on select herbicide products including Infinity, Infinity FX, Luxxur, Tundra, Varro and Velocity m3. The Incredible Bayer Offer allows another $1/acre on Infinity, Infinity FX, Luxxur, Varro and $2/ acre on Tundra and Velocity m3.

3. Fungicide: Rebates of up to 18 per cent on cereal and pulse fungicides such as Delaro, Folicur EW, Proline and Prosaro XTR. The Fungicide Multiplier continues in 2019. To qualify, buy 300 acres of product from each of at least two different fungicide categories. Category 1: Cereals (Folicur EW/Prosaro XTR) 2. Canola (Proline) 3. Pulses (Delaro)

And there’s more: spend $125,000 or more on eligible products for an additional one per cent rebate.

Book at least 1,000 qualifying acres of cereal herbicides before March 15, 2019, and save up to $2 per acre with the Incredible Bayer offer. Buctril M, Olympus, Puma Advance and Thumper purchases under the Incredible Bayer Offer can be used towards the 1,000 acre total but do not qualify for additional rebates.

Eligible purchases for the BayerValue program must be made between October 1, 2018 and September 30, 2019. If you were registered in 2018, you will automatically be re-enrolled for 2019. If you were not registered last year, sign up.

Also new for 2019: earn $1/acre on all Reglone Ion purchases, based on Partner Program qualification.

There are three main components to the program: the Portfolio Reward, the Soybean Seed Bonus and the Purchase Volume Reward.

With the Portfolio Reward component, you can increase your rebate by matching acres across different categories, from $2/acre up to $4.50/acre.

With additional matching acres of Syngenta soybean seed varieties, increase your rebate up to an additional $2 to $4/acre in the Soybean Seed Bonus component.

Once you meet the $25,000 criteria, earn between three and six per cent on the Purchase Volume Reward component on additional qualifying purchases. Qualifying cereal seed and canola Seedcare products are not eligible for reward, but these purchases still boost your Purchase Volume Reward payment.

With Preferred Status, your rebate will be an additional 0.5 per cent.
