In September 2018, GM displayed a High Country version of the 2019 Silverado at the Texas State Fair. It was the debut for this new trim package and is only one of four different “concepts” buyers can opt for when spec’ing out an all new Chevy pickup this fall.
“We know every truck customer is unique, which is why the Silverado offers eight trims, each with a different combination of technology, performance and design,” said Hugh Milne, Silverado marketing manager, in a press release. “With a full catalogue of accessories and performance parts, we offer exponentially more ways for customers to build their ideal truck. And, unlike certain aftermarket components, these are designed, engineered and validated to the same engineering standards as the Silverado itself, and backed by Chevrolet.”
That catalogue lists, among other things, performance parts and accessories including step kits and tonneau covers, illuminated bowtie emblems, cargo bed storage boxes, upgraded brake systems and suspension lift kits.
These new options can be ordered with a new pickup or purchased directly from GM as a bolt on for existing trucks. Customers who want to juice up their current Silverados can buy those accessories online and have them shipped direct to their homes — assuming a courier will deliver them somewhere convenient, given few will venture out to a farmyard — or pick them up at the local GM dealer.
When it comes to the four new “concept” Silverados, all four went on display at the SEMA show in Las Vegas at the end of October. They include the High Country, the LTZ, the RST Off Road and the RST Street versions.
The High Country is a “premium outdoor” truck with options like a two-inch suspension lift, six-piston front brake callipers and a 6.2 litre engine with upgraded exhaust and cold-air intake.
The LTZ is intended to provide enhanced trailer towing capabilities. It gets a 5.3 litre power plant, along with the ability to add options like the trailer towing camera system.
Then there is the RST Off Road, which also puts a 5.3 under the hood and rides on that mild, two-inch suspension lift. The other RST, the street version, goes the other way, with a lowered suspension and all the options necessary to make an impression when cruising Main Street with the muscle car crowd.
