The German tillage and seeding equipment brand Horsch has had a presence that includes manufacturing facilities in North America for some time. And now it’s opening a crop production research centre, adding to the list of other such facilities it operates around the world.
The new Agro Innovation Center is located at Downs, Illinois, and it encompasses 160 acres. The company says it “will now serve as testing grounds for global cropping methods, innovative farming concepts and new technologies.” Horsch will also use it for equipment testing, dealer training and other company events.

The company also adds that the research done there will include controlled traffic farming, cover crops, non-GMO varieties and diverse crop rotations. It will also incorporate the latest technologies in precision seeding, planting and spraying, as well as advancements in robotics and artificial intelligence.
“Although Horsch is an equipment manufacturer, the Agro Innovation Center isn’t about equipment,” said Jeremy Hughes, product manager for Horsch, in a press release. “It’s about our passion for farming and finding practical solutions to challenges such as weed and insect resistance, logistics, automation, and the evolving demands of the food supply chain. Not everything we try will be a success, but it will all bring us a step closer to the answers we seek.”
